What? Losing hair? Am I Turning Bald?

Every morning after I comb my hair, I find countless strands of hair on the floor in my bedroom. Whenever I finished washing my hair, I would find strands of hair blocking the the water outlet hole in the shower cubicle.

I thought female hair loss is only accepted when women are old and it is hard to find a hair loss happened to me while I’m only in my early 30s. Thinking that something must be wrong with me, I talked to my family doctor.

The cause of female hair loss is different for every woman. It could be due to :-

1.Poor nutrition. A lack of essential vitamins and minerals in the diet might cause hair loss.

2.Certain types of medication can cause hair loss. If you are using medication and you are experiencing hair loss, talk to your doctor.

3.A scalp infection can be the cause of (temporary) hair loss.

4.Damaging hair treatments with acids or heat can damage the hair and follicles to an extent where hair will stop growing.

5. Pregnancy. Some women experienced hair loss during pregnancy but it is temporary and the condition will improved after giving birth.

6. Stress. It is inevitable the root of all conditions.

I was advised to use Minoxidil 5% solution. Massage the solution lightly into the scalp twice daily on my scalp. I was also told that I could only see results after 2 to 3 months of continual application.

Let’s see if there is any improvement after that, keep my fingers crossed!

Other causes of hair loss in women may be: Thyroid problems, low Iron due to heavy periods, irregular cycles due to hormonal disturbance and the oral contraceptive pill (in some women).

Being a female, and using Minoxidil 5%, one has to take care as not to apply it at the outer margin of the hairline since this may cause facial hair growth. You should apply Minoxidil about one inch to the back of the hairline. Wipe immediately any solution which drips on the face.
